The Sokoto State Government has commenced a two-day capacity-building workshop for key stakeholders on the Updated National Chart of Accounts, Budget Performance Reporting, and State Financial Accounting.
The workshop, organised by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, was meant to significantly deepen fiscal transparency and accountability,
is taking place at the Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja.
Declaring the event open, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana, emphasised the administration’s strong commitment to an efficient Public Financial Management system rooted in transparency, accountability, and effective resource allocation.
Dr. Zayyana noted that the training aligns with Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s reform agenda, which seeks to institutionalise best practices in budgeting, expenditure reporting, and wealth distribution across the state.
He said, “Our administration has made considerable progress in aligning Sokoto’s budgeting processes with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards and the National Chart of Accounts.
“This is part of our broader commitment to a scientific, inclusive, and realistic budgetary system that captures the needs of all segments of our society.”
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s readiness to continue investing in the capacity building of personnel across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to enhance productivity and service delivery.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Maryam Ahmad Barade, described the workshop as a vital step in achieving grassroots development and improving governance outcomes.
She added that the current administration has implemented various structural reforms aimed at reversing inefficiencies and positioning the state on a path of sustainable economic growth.
“This workshop provides an excellent platform to reflect, share ideas, and strategise on how to consolidate our achievements and further improve planning and governance,” she said.
Also speaking at the event were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Sani Muhammad Tambuwal, and the Deputy Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Dogon Daji, who both reiterated the importance of fiscal discipline and cross-agency collaboration.
Participants were drawn from the State Ministries of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, and the Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service, among others.
The workshop is expected to enhance the stakeholders’ capacity to implement reforms that ensure better financial control, improved service delivery, and equitable development across Sokoto State.
