The race for Osun State’s 2026 governorship ticket is heating up, as Bola Oyebamiji, former Commissioner for Finance in the state, has officially thrown his hat into the ring under the All Progressives Congress.

On Thursday, his campaign team, the AMBO Grassrooters, stormed Iragbiji, the hometown of former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, seeking the support of APC members in Boripe Local Government.

Addressing party faithful during the inauguration of Boripe LGA coordinators for the group, the representative of AMBO for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odootin Federal Constituency, Mr. Oye Adebayo, urged them to rally behind Oyebamiji’s bid, describing him as the solution to Osun’s financial challenges.

Adebayo declared, “We are here to sell the candidacy of Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji to become the next governor of Osun State and to inaugurate Ambo Grassrooters in Boripe Local Government.

“Oyebamiji is a good manager of money. He was saddled with this responsibility for eight years and he bailed the state out of financial predicament.

“Financial woe is a bad omen for a state and Oyebamiji is a good manager of money and people. He is very cool-headed. We need someone like that as our governor.

“I want to urge members of the party in Boripe Local Government to give their support to him.”

Adebayo, a former chairman of Boripe LGA, did not spare the current PDP-led administration, accusing it of poor performance despite increased federal allocations.

“The present administration has no tangible achievements to show for its time in office, despite earning more in terms of monthly allocations,” he said.

Responding, the APC chairman in Boripe, Mufutau Omogboye, cautioned party members against divisive rhetoric, stressing that APC in the local government will stand by any directive given by Oyetola.

In a swift rebuttal, the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party dismissed Adebayo’s claims as baseless.

The party’s Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, described the comments as “laughable,” insisting that Governor Ademola Adeleke has performed creditably.

“Governor Adeleke has done so well for this state and the people know it. If a group of vote seekers is saying otherwise, then people know who is showing genuine interest in their well-being. Adeleke has done well and people love him.

“If he is earning more, why is the person that said that not looking at hyperinflation that the government is having to deal with?” Bamiji queried.
