The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the Free State, South Africa, aimed at boosting academic collaboration, research, and innovation.

According to a statement by the university’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr Paul Adeagbo, on Monday, the partnership will focus on areas such as agriculture, science, and technology.

The agreement, the statement noted, covers several areas of cooperation including joint research projects, collaborative research in areas of mutual interest, student and staff exchange programmes, and joint capacity-building initiatives such as workshops and training sessions.

“This partnership is expected to enhance the academic and research capabilities of both institutions, promoting knowledge sharing and innovation,” the statement read.

“It will also facilitate the exchange of best practices, expertise, and resources between OAUSTECH and the University of the Free State.”

The MoU signing ceremony was held at OAUSTECH’s campus.

Commenting on the development, Vice Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, expressed excitement about the partnership, describing it as an opportunity to expand academic and research frontiers.

“This collaboration will open up new avenues for academic engagement and research collaboration with a reputable international institution,” he said.

Echoing the sentiment, the acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Free State, Prof. Anthea Rhoda, noted the partnership’s potential for mutual benefit.

“This MoU signing is a testament to the commitment of both institutions to advancing academic excellence and fostering global partnerships,” Rhoda stated.
