The Kogi State Government is in partnership with a real estate development company, Mufkad Estate, to deliver a rent-to-own housing estate for civil servants in the state.

This was disclosed by the Project Manager of Mufkad Estate, Suberu Nusa, in an interview with newsmen on Saturday.

Nusa said Mufkad was working closely with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under the directive of Governor Usman Ododo to fast-track the rollout of the project and ensure it met the needs of public sector workers in the state.

“We met with the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development on the instruction of Governor Usman Ododo, to chart a way forward for the immediate delivery of affordable housing.

“The governor has tasked us with developing a rent-to-own model in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, so civil servants can occupy these homes and pay over time,” he said.

According to him, the project was a direct response to the rising cost of rent in Kogi, particularly in Lokoja, and aimed to provide civil servants with dignified and affordable housing options.

He revealed that the housing units would be made available under a rent-to-own scheme supported by the FMBN, with flexible payment plans spread over 15 to 20 years at single-digit interest rates.
